Medicine can sometimes do more damage than good. Use these herbs the next time you reach for your medicine cabinet.

There is literally a medicine for everything today. Filled with crazy side effects, words you can’t pronounce and high prescription costs. Yuck. Here are a few herbs that I have in my medicine cabinet because Mother Nature always knows best.

1. Cayenne Pepper

This spice packs a kick but its powers are incredible. Cayenne pepper is known for increasing your metabolism and lowering your heart rate among other things. You can sprinkle a bit on your food or you can put it in water and take a shot of it. Keep in mind this stuff is spicy. If you like spicy foods then this is perfect for you, if not I would go light at first until you get use to it.

2. Ginger

This is another miracle herb that can help with digestive problems, nausea, boost immunity, reduce pain and helps with inflammatory infects to just name a few. I personally use this herb along with other natural ingredients to create my own version of a flu shot. I buy fresh ginger root and shave off slices into my drink or incorporate the spice into a meal. I find that ginger has a strong taste so a little goes a long way when using it.

3. Turmeric

This is herb is good for anti-inflammatory issues & a pain killer as well. It can also assist with aliments from arthritis, diabetes and help with some cancer patients as well. One of my favorite uses for turmeric is to make a face mask! It helps to clear acne on your face and can reduce oil secretion. Turmeric has a organge-ish color to it, but don’t worry because it wont stain your face.

4. Aloe Vera

The aloe plant is literally amazing. Aloe Vera is good for healing wounds, digestion, detoxifying, acne and hair growth to name a few. I even make an aloe Vera deep conditioner which left my hair feeling ah-maze-ing-ly soft! I know many items claim to be made with aloe etc. but nothing beats getting the gel directly from one of those funny looking leaves if you can help it. If you have access to fresh Aloe Vera leaves or any fresh herbs I would always use that first. If not be sure to find products that are 100% Aloe Vera. Read the instructions on the back and make sure they don’t have any funny ingredients in there you don’t recognize

5. Echinacea

I take Echinacea pills whenever I feel myself trying to get sick or if I want to boost my immune system for any reason. You can take this herb in tea for or as pills. I prefer to take them in pill form and take them with me especially when I travel to combat anything that could potentially make me sick. The perfect time to take Echinacea or any other immune booster is when you get that little pre-sick scratchy throat thing that we’ve all experienced. Anytime I get that feeling I always make sure to take a few pills combined with my wellness shot.
