It’s officially summer! Which means more vacations and traveling! If you all really knew me you would know that traveling is my favorite thing to do. I live for seeing new places and experiencing new things. I’m actually writing this while traveling to Arizona. (it’s beautiful by the way) If you all really knew me you would also know I’m cheap. I know how to pinch a penny and do more for less. Here are some of the tips I use when trying to save money traveling.
Bring your own food
Eating out even when you’re not traveling can be expensive, but meals at hotels, airports, and resorts can get extremely pricey. Pack your meals while traveling. Airports don’t allow you to carry liquids over 3 ounces but many foods can pass. You can do fun things like have a picnic in a nice area. You might splurge on one or two meals to try new or local cuisine but if you’re on a budget this is one of the best ways to save money.
Stay at budget hotels and hostels
I know it might be nice to stay in fancy 5 star resorts but if you’re really vacationing right then you don’t plan on being in the room much anyway. Depending on your level of comfort, you might want to look into things like hostels and Air B&Bs or if you really want to travel cheap and meet new people try Couchsurfing. It’s basically an Air B&B but you get to stay for free!
Go with others
Everything is cheaper when you can split the costs. Ubers, hotel rooms, gas and tours can all be much cheaper when you share the costs. You can also split other things like driving, and if you’re in a big group you can split up a do different things so everyone has a chance to get what they want out of the trip.
Travel in the middle of the week
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are golden days for traveling because you miss the weekend and business rush. Also, if you work a job then you can try to attach your vacation days to a holiday and extend trips to make the most out of your time off.
Where are you going this summer? Leave a comment and I’ll try to share some more tips!
